■Design+World 2013TOKUJIN YOSHIOKAPATRICIA URQUIOLANAO TAMURAFABRICACULTURE OF GLASSPHAIDONDANIEL WIDRIGKUWASAWA DESIGN SCHOOLFor its third installment of Design+World at this year’s Art Basel/Design Miami, Luminaire is proud to renew its commitment tothe promotion of good design and education. The exhibition,Design+World, takes a comprehensive and expansive approachof how today’s designers are interpreting materials, technologies, production methods, and their environments to create workthat expands on the traditional boundaries of design. LuminaireLab transforms into a design laboratory where the public caninteract and explore new concepts in design. Highlighting thesevarious approaches are longtime friends and collaborators aswell as new emerging and energetic designers. Luminaire isproud to welcome new projects by the talented Tokujin Yoshiokaand Patricia Urquiola; explore the Culture of Glass with NaoTamura, Fabrica, and a specially curated private collection;further design education with Phaidon partnership; and welcomethe innovative views of Daniel Widrig and sculptural designs ofthe Kuwasawa Design School.■Kuwasawa Design SchoolDeveloped as a study of shape, students from Tokyo's KuwasawaDesign School have created sinuous forms from a single pieceof wood. Repetitive carving, sawing and chiseling followed theshape of the student's hand to create an emotional connectionwith the object when held. With this project, computer modelingis eschewed in favor of manual process. Through each students'interpretation of the material, the final shapes are unique, mostpleasing to the touch and highlight the intrinsic relationshipbetween object and creator. In 1954 Kuwasawa Design School (KDS) was established inToyko's Harajuku district as the first educational institutiondedicated solely to design in Japan. Founder Yoko Kuwasawaenvisioned the school as a space where esteemed designers, architects, sculptors and students respond to social needs inboth intellectual and material ways. During the last seventyyears, KDS has played a significant role in design history with atradition rich in passion, excellence and a pioneering approachto design education.Designers enhance everyday lives by uniting the sensuous, theaesthetic and the practical. We look forward to watching today'sKDS students evolve as the passionate design thinkers, creatorsand leaders of our times.■出典画像・文献:LUMINAIRE http://luminaire.com/52
